Sustainable Digital Infrastructure for the Future Cloud-Edge Continuum
Tor Björn will delve into the future requirements of the digital infrastructure that supports advanced industrial and societal use cases. The implementation of 5G+ and 6G technologies, characterized by low latency and high computational demands, will impose new requirements on the digital infrastructure spanning from the cloud to the edge. High-performance computing will necessitate both distributed and expanded cloud capacities. Edge nodes and data centers in proximity to cities need to be well-integrated with energy systems, including electricity, hydrogen, and heat. Silent and sustainable operation is a prerequisite. Large-scale cloud infrastructure must be capable of handling high-density computing, with 100 kW of electricity input and 100 kW of heat output from server racks and baths, based on a hybrid air and liquid cooling system. Tor Björn will share insights from the research and innovation projects conducted by RISE, addressing these challenges
